I, too, sing America
I am the gay sister They pretend I don’t exist Because I am different But I keep being me And I love myself each day And grow strong Tomorrow, They’ll realize I’m not so different And they’ll make me a part of their community No one will say a word, They won’t be able to Ignore me Then. Anyways, They’ll realize we all bleed red And they’ll accept me- I, too, am American

An American is any person who is born in the United States of America. To be American means to be apart of this union and this country no matter your race or religion. An American is someone who wants to serve our country and honor it in a good way whether it means joining the army or doing your part as a citizen in a small neighborhood community. To be an American means that you will follow and respect the laws here in the United States. It means that you will follow the constitution and the bill of rights. As an American you will not take for granted the rights that we are so fortunate to have here in the United States. The right to vote, the freedom of speech and religion, all of those rights were given to us after the hard work and dedication of our founding father and our fellow American Citizens before us. The American life is wanting to have a better life. The hard work of an immigrate mother coming to the United States in hopes of wanting a better life for her daughter. The "American Dream" is wanting to be able to support yourself or others, it is wanting to have a future or wanting to give others a future, a good future, the kind of future that is only possible in America.
